LIFESTYLE refers to a concept that pertains to how humans interact with each other. In general, human behavior is categorized into five distinct layers – cognitive, emotional, interpersonal, functional, and intrapersonal. The key idea of the concept is that different human behaviors are determined by more than just one factor. As such, human behavior can be neatly classified into layers. Each level of behavior is a function of one or more cognitive processes. Within each layer, however, behaviors can diverge depending on circumstances.
LIFESTYLE refers to aspects of human behavior that are determined by several intangible factors. The term has been introduced by Austrian psychiatrist Alfred Adler in his famous 29 page book, The Case of Miss R. with the implied meaning of “the basic nature of a person as established early on”. Among other things, Adler argued that our lifestyles could be organized around four primary threads – ideals, needs, desires, and personality traits. These threads, he believed, can be brought together to form a model of LIFESTYLE.
Underlying this theory of LIFESTYLE is the assumption that everyone has an ideal lifestyle. Adler argued that there are four potential sources of dissatisfaction for which people may strive. These include unhappiness related to work (work related unhappiness), unhappiness related to relationships (interpersonal unhappiness), and unhealthy lifestyle or physical ailments. Unhealthy lifestyles include smoking, high consumption of alcoholic beverages, unhealthy eating habits, and sedentary activities. Adler recognized the potentially destructive nature of unhealthy lifestyles, and provided the means for how to deal with these problems through four primary methods.
In order to create a healthy and happy LIFESTYLE, Adler suggested that individuals should seek out support groups. Support groups can provide individuals with resources for healthy and successful LIFESTYLE. Some of these resources can include physicians, psychologists, teachers, social workers, and religious and community leaders. Other resources that could be found in a support group for LIFESTYLE include careers and job counselors, career transition coaches, parents, and others. In addition, when looking for a support group, it is important to find one that does not expect immediate results (as in a therapy group), but rather one that works slowly towards creating lasting changes in lifestyle.
While looking for resources for LIFESTYLE, it is important to avoid becoming too involved in online forums and blogs. Some of these websites allow you to link to your blog posts, which makes you look more responsible and mature than you really are. While participating in forums and blogs does not make you a member of the LIFESTYLE, it does make you seem less interested in creating lasting lifestyle changes. It is also best to avoid becoming too attached to social media websites. This is because these websites do not provide you with any tools or techniques for creating a healthy and successful LIFESTYLE.
All in all, LIFESTYLE is an amazing concept that has given a new direction to the lives of millions of people. However, as with anything worth having, it takes hard work and determination to make it work and achieve your goals. Although Max Weber has inspired millions, you need to know that you can become a part of his success without having to change your entire life. Just remember to surround yourself with positive influences, and remember that LIFESTYLE is a lifestyle! The most important thing is to just get out there; do not worry about how others see you; instead, just go ahead and live your life!
